The Walt Disney World resorts have so much to offer that we don’t want anybody to miss out, so we have compiled a list of must-do’s and must-know’s for before you go!

  • Housekeeping

Disney’s housekeeping service is carried out every other day for value and moderate resorts, and every day for deluxe resorts. If you are staying on DVC points, this changes to every 4 days. However, if you need additional towels or sheets at any other point in your stay you can call and ask for extra and they will bring them to your room. You can also opt out of housekeeping services all together. It is customary to leave a tip for the housekeeping services.

  • Bell Services

Bell services operate at all of the Disney resorts. They can assist with delivering your luggage to your room, collecting your luggage when checking out, and storing your luggage when necessary. If you are moving resorts they will also collect your luggage and move it across to your new resort free of charge (although, again, it is customary to tip the cast members that assist you).

Some resorts offer storage of chilled groceries at bell services, check before your stay whether this is an option.

  • Refillable Cups

Resort refillable cups are an amazing money saving purchase when staying on site at Walt Disney World. They cost $22.99 + tax for the length of your stay and can be used at any Disney resort (but not the parks), regardless of whether you are staying there!

If you are planning on visiting any other resort make sure you take your cups with you to make the most of the refills.

Most refill stations are at the quick service locations, some can be found by the pools too, and many resorts now have Coca Cola freestyle machines which have 100s of refill options.

  • Toasting Marshmallows

Every Disney resort offers nightly marshmallow roasting around the fire pit. Check the recreation schedule at your resort to find out times, although this is usually around 6-7pm.

This is a complimentary activity offered to guests of the resorts, but there is the option to purchase s’mores kits for around $7 if you wanted to enhance your experience further.

  • Movies Under The Stars

Each evening the resorts show Disney movies on a large outdoor screen. The schedule for this can be found on the recreation timetable and changes weekly. This is a great way to wind down after a day in the parks.

  • Fitness Centres

All deluxe Disney resorts have a fitness centre on site for the use of guests staying at that resort. None of the value and moderate resorts, with the exception of Coronado Springs have this facility, but there are jogging tracks at all resorts as an alternative.

  • Lifejackets and Lifeguards

The main pool at every Disney resort is fully staffed with the most incredible lifeguards, and when we say incredible, we mean they do not take their eyes off the water!

All of the pools and water parks have complimentary lifejackets of all sizes so that you have piece of mind that your children are safe whilst swimming.

  • Celebration Badges

If you head to the front desk at any resort and chat to them about anything you are celebrating on your trip, they will give you a badge o proudly wear! Whether it is a birthday, honeymoon, anniversary or a first visit, they have lots of optios to suit what you need.

  • Pin Trading

It isn’t just in the parks that you can partake in the Disney tradition of pin trading, the resorts always have boards to take a look at too!

Check your resorts front desk, store counters or even find cast members around the resort that are ready and eager to trade. This is one of our kids’ favourite activities at the resorts!

  • Hey Disney

A recent addition to most resort rooms has been ‘Hey Disney!’. Think an Alexa, but with Mickey ears! Many people aren’t sure how to use this to it’s full potential, though. Anything you would usually call front desk for, can be done on your Hey Disney. On our recent trip we ordered fresh towels, and a restock to our coffee simply by asking Hey Disney for it!

  • Playgrounds

One of the parts of the resorts our kids love are the playgrounds! Although they don’t feature at every resort, if you are resort hopping they are open for anyone to use. Head to https://www.disneyworld.co.uk/recreation/playgrounds/ to see which resorts have playgrounds available!

  • Extra Magic Hours

If you are staying in any of the resorts, regardless of whether it is a value, moderate or deluxe, you are able to make use of the Early Theme Park Entry perk. This gives you access to any of the resorts 30 minutes before any off-site guests can enter, this gives you a great little headstart onto the most popular rides, but make sure you get there at least an hour before main opening to ensure you get in with enough time.

There are also regular Extended Evening Hours for deluxe resorts guests, check the hours for which parks this includes throughout your stay.

  • Room Requests

After booking your Walt Disney World trip, make sure you speak to guest services (or your travel agent) prior to when you travel to request a specific area of the resort if you have a preference. It could be that you would like to be close to the lobby, on the ground floor, or in a building close to the transportation (for example the Skyliner at Caribbean Beach). If you do mobile check-in for your resort, it will also ask you for any preferences on there, however if you do this in advance there is more chance that they will be able to do it, altough it is never guaranteed.

  • Renting DVC Points

Something that is becoming more and more popular recently is renting Disney Vacation Club points for stays, rather than booking a cash package. This allows you to stay at a deluxe resort for the price of a moderate, however we highly recommend using a certified broker to do this to give your vacation that extra protection. Choose between an amount of points that you can request where you would like the booking to be made, or a confirmed booking that matches your dates/location.

Unfortunately, this does not give you any additional perks of being a member during your stay, but it is a great way to get more value out of your trip!

  • Arcades

Most Disney resorts have an on-site arcade, these are a huge hit with our kids, and a great way to spend some downtime at the resort.

To play games, you purchase a Game Card and add game points using a credit card or cash at a kiosk inside the arcade. Game Cards are rechargeable and can be used at any other Walt Disney World Resort arcades. The prices are always super reasonable too!

  • Seasonal Fun

If you are travelling over a holiday - Easter, Halloween or Christmas, be sure to check out the recreation schedule for the resort as there will be plenty of seasonal fun taking place! From Easter Egg hunts to character appearances and pumpkin trails, there is always something going on!

Make sure you visit all of the gingerbread displays at the resorts at christmas, and the Easter Eggs at the Grand Floridian at Easter too!

  • Community Halls

Several of the deluxe resorts have their very own community halls or kids clubs, providing free and paid-for activities and crafts. There are pool tables, table tennis tables, movies showing, craft tables and much more!

Check the schedule for the resort you are staying at when checking in, to make sure you don’t miss out on any timed sessions!

  • Free Water Park Access

A new perk for resort guests for 2025 is the free access to the water parks on your check-in day! This will appear on your My Disney Experience account as a ticket a few days before you travel. For the first time this year, both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach will be open simultaneously from May. This will hopefully ease the crowds a little, as the parks have been hitting capacity on some days, since this offer began in January!
